What We Believe

Our Core Beliefs

The following is an overview of the central beliefs that are fundamental for us and to all followers of Jesus. While there are other teachings that we hold to, these are the most important ones. Some of the ideas and terminology might be unfamiliar to you. If that is you, you're in the right place, and we encourage you to reach out or stop by on a Sunday so we might be able to get to know you and introduce you to this God that all our Core beliefs are built on.

God

Jesus Christ

Deuteronomy 6:4 / Matthew 5:48 /
Matthew 28:19
There is one eternally existing God who has three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. He is the creator of all that exists, visiblee and invisible, and therefore worthy of all glory and praise.  God is perfect in love, power, holiness, goodness, knowledge, wisdom,  justice, and mercy. He is unchangeable and therefore is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

The Bible

2 Timothy 3:15-17 / 2 Peter 1:21
We believe the Bible is inspired by God, inerrant in the original writings, the revelation of God to man, and the final authority in faith and life. We often say at Cornerstone that when I find something in my life that doesn't match up with the Bible, my life needs to change, not what the Bible says.

The Church

Matthew 28:19-20 / Acts 2:41-47
The Church is made up of believers who join together to worship God, love each other, and reach the world with the love of God. At Cornerstone, we are a church that welcomes people with messy lives and a messy history with God, as we ourselves deal with and have dealt with the same. We seek to grow in our faithfulness towards God as he shows us how to live like Jesus.

Our Denomination

Cornerstone Christian Fellowship is actually  part of a bigger group of churches called a denomination.  Ours is called the Christian & Missionary Alliance (CMA for short). This is perhaps a little less well known, but the CMA has existed for about 150 years with a focus on sending missionaries and planting churches amongst people who have not heard of the Good News of Jesus. To find out more info on the CMA and a more detailed statement of faith click below.
Philippians 2:6–11 / Luke 1:34–38/
John 14:6
We believe that Jesus is God, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary and is truly God and truly man. We believe that Jesus is the way the truth and the life and the only way for us to experience what we were created for is through Jesus.

The Fall

Romans 3:10-23 / Romans 6:23
We believe that all people are separated from God because of our own wrongdoing or sins towards God and other people. Because of our sin, we are separated from a perfect and Holy God and in need of a savior, who we will find only in Jesus Christ.

Our Redemption

Ephesians 1:7  /  1 Peter 1:19-21  /
Romans 10:13  /  Ephesians 2:8-9
Man’s only hope of redemption is through the life and Death of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.  Salvation is received through repentance of sins, not because of righteous things we have done, but because of His grace and mercy.  We are justified by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.

The Holy Spirit

John 14:15-18 / Acts 1:8 / John 16:13-14
Christians are people who entrust their lives to Jesus and are indwelt by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is God's spirit that Jesus says lives in us to teach and empower us to be the growing disciples he has called us to be.
